Ios Windmills
Windmills are one of the signature icons of the Cyclades, and Ios Island has 12 traditional windmills. In the past the windmills would have been used to grind barley and wheat to make bread.
The windmills are set in 2 rows on either side of the hill overlooking Chora, however, only 3 have been restored. The rest have been worn by the weather, but it is hoped that they will be restored in the future too.
The charming windmills are a must-see for anyone visiting Ios.
To get to the windmills, walk east through the village of Chora. You get a great view of the village and the Aegean Sea.
